# Market maps and public markets

Use **Market Maps** to structure an industry and **Public Markets** to inspect available information about listed companies. These views support research; verify the source and reporting period before using a result in a transaction analysis.

## Explore a market map

Open **Market Maps** and choose or search for the market relevant to your mandate. Review the market definition before drawing conclusions from its segmentation. Open the available segments and company details to understand what is included.

A useful market map should answer a specific question, such as “Which parts of industrial packaging have recurring service revenue?” Define the geography, customer type and boundaries. A map based on different definitions can produce a different target universe.

Use the Analyst to develop a sourced market analysis or explain the relationship between segments. Ask for explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria. Save promising companies to a working list and verify them before adding them to the pipeline.

## Research listed companies

The current Public Markets page is labeled **Experimental** and focuses on US-listed companies.

Open **Public Markets** from the sidebar or **More** and search for the intended company or ticker. Check the exchange and entity, especially for companies with multiple listings or similarly named securities.

Review the available profile, financial information, peers, transcripts, analyst information and filings. Coverage varies by company and provider. Check whether numbers are annual or quarterly, the currency and units, and whether comparisons use the same period.

For a memo, ask the Analyst to distinguish reported historical performance from estimates and forecasts. Cite the filing or transcript behind a material assertion. A missing value should remain missing until supported by evidence.

## Build a comparison

Start with a defined peer set and consistent criteria. Record why each peer belongs in the set, normalize currencies and periods where appropriate, and state the valuation date. Use a spreadsheet or deliverable to make assumptions visible to reviewers.

Do not infer that a market view is a complete list of private companies or that all available figures update at the same time. If a source or period is unclear, confirm it before circulating the analysis.
